JAI10 - Even More Medallion!

Here it is, my final creation for the Just Add Ink Colour Challenge:

Can you tell that I love this colour combination?  I think the colours look so stunning together, and I usually hate Cameo Coral!  I made this pillow box using an image I stamped for this card that didn't make the cut.  I didn't use enough water - I'm telling myself it looks a bit vintage... lol.

I'm ridiculously proud of this bow!  First attempt and it just WORKED.  That just doesn't happen to me!!

Materials:
Stamp set - Medallion
Cardstock - Kraft, Close to Cocoa, Blush Blossom
Inks - Markers in Close to Cocoa, Cameo Coral, Blush Blossom
Accessories - water spray, Big Shot, Pillow Box die, Kraft taffeta ribbon

Wings of Friendship - Another UStamp Challenge

The card I'm sharing this time is for another UStamp Spring SoirĂ©e...2010 challenge - this time it was an Inspiration Challenge and the picture we were given for inspiration was of a baby's bedroom.  I chose to use the colours featured in the room, and have featured a bird because the picture had a wall hanging with a bird on it.  Here it is!

Again, I've been into my markers!

Hmmm... that ribbon is familiar... See my previous use of this ribbon here, and the fabulous crafter I cased it from - Kirsty Jeffery.

Materials:
Stamp set - Wings of Friendship
Cardstock - Mellow Moss, Naturals Ivory
Inks - Markers in So Saffron, Mellow Moss, Pretty in Pink
Accessories - water spray, Big Shot, Top Note die, Pretty in Pink taffeta ribbon, Pretty in Pink corduroy buttons

Casing Kirsty Jeffery...

One of the Just Add Ink Design Team members, Kirsty Jeffery, made an absolutely stunning card for the Colour Challenge this week.  In fact, my reaction when I saw her card was "Oh crap.  Now I have to start again (with my entry)."  So today I'm casing Kirsty's design.

It's different in terms of the stamp sets and the positioning of the colours, but the main aspects I wanted to case were the beautiful way she used the Top Note and the ribbon feature.

Isn't this a beautiful way to add ribbon?

I also used a left over piece of my Vintage Vogue card to punch out the watercoloured heart.  I'd love to know what you think!

Materials:
Stamp set - Vintage Vogue, Very Vintage Jumbo Wheel
Cardstock - Kraft, Close to Cocoa, Cameo Coral, Blush Blossom, Watercolour paper
Inks - Markers in Close to Cocoa, Cameo Coral, Blush Blossom, Versamark
Accessories - water spray, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Big Shot, Top Note die, Perfect Polka Dots embossing Folder, Kraft taffeta ribbon, Heart to Heart punch, clear embossing powder, heat tool

JAI10 With Vintage Vogue

On Friday I mentioned that I made a few different things for the Just Add Ink Colour Challenge:

This one was very nearly my submission for the Design Team.  I'm so happy with the way it turned out - I'd love to know what you think!

I just love the new Vintage Vogue set - it's so pretty.  I used the flower flourish stamp, markers and my Stamp-a-ma-jig to create the middle panel.  It's a bit time consuming, but I think the effect is worth it!

Materials:
Stamp set - Vintage Vogue
Cardstock - Kraft, Blush Blossom, Watercolour paper
Inks - Markers in Close to Cocoa, Cameo Coral, Blush Blossom, Versamark
Accessories - clear embossing powder, heat tool, Stamp-a-ma-jig, water spray

The Sale-A-Bration catalogue has nearly come to an end, so I thought I'd share some of the last lot of cards I made using Happy Moments.  The layout is the same as the cards I posted here previously, but these are watercoloured rather than using Crystal Effects.  I love this present image!

Inks - Versamark, re-inkers in Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango, Bermuda Bay

EDITED TO ADD:
I've had a few people ask me how I embossed this card, so I've posted some more details HERE.

Danielle Daws, Bargain Hunter...

Many of you would know by now that Funky Homes in Liverpool Street Hobart is a stockist of my cards.  For a while I've been thinking about having a small display rack at home as well, mainly so I can keep track of the cards I have for sale but also because I'm getting customers purchasing cards at my workshops, and I'm getting custom orders now too.

But these display racks are so expensive!  I looked on ebay, in second hand shop fittings stores, I even looked at how expensive it would be to have one made.  But today I got myself a bargain.  A BIG bargain!  I love bargain shopping.  I always feel better if I've made a saving on something.  Anyway, today my daughter Olivia and I were in town shopping and I noticed a gift store I've always liked was closing down.  So we went to have a look and everything was at least 50% off.

We wandered around and we were about to leave when I noticed a few little acrylic display platforms for sale.  They're quite small (the biggest is 2cm high and about 10cm long), but will be great for what I want them for.  We went to pay and I noticed an acrylic card display stand at the counter, just as I heard a salesperson tell another customer that they were selling everything.  So I figured I'd ask.  The little platforms I got were $10 for a set of 3, which is a bargain for those sorts of things, so I wasn't sure what price they'd want for the display stand.

Wanna guess?  Here's a picture of it with all my cards that are ready to go into town...

How brilliant is that?!  Yes, I know I'm just a bit excited about a piece of plastic, but a bargain is a bargain...  :-)

Just Add Ink #10 - Colour Challenge

It's challenge time again at Just Add Ink, and this week it's a Colour Challenge:

Of course I wanted to play with some of the new goodies that arrived this week...  But I couldn't decide!  I ended up doing a few different things, so I'll have some more posts for this challenge over the week.  Here's my first creation, the one that is featured on Just Add Ink:

This technique is surprisingly easy to do.  All you need is your markers, (they're much easier to use for this than ink pads) and a spray bottle of water.

Colour your image, working from lightest to darkest colour so you don't stain your markers.  Hold your stamp away from you and spray with the water.  You'll need to figure out the ideal amount of water for you because all water spray bottles are different!  My bottle gives a good mist and I sprayed it about 4 times.  I also spray the water indirectly - so into the air above the stamp, and then I move the stamp into the mist of water.  I've found that helps to get an even coverage.  Then you stamp your image onto your cardstock, holding the stamp in place for a few seconds to make sure all the ink has been soaked up by the cardstock.  Easy!

So, what's the verdict??

Make sure you visit the other Design Team creations at Just Add Ink, and I look forward to seeing your entries!

Happy Moments with Crystal Effects

One of my favourite techniques to use lately has been using re-inkers with Crystal Effects.  It's really easy, really effective, and a great way to do a stack of cards in the same design.  The downside is that it can be a bit fiddly (depending on the image you're using), and if you're extra fussy (like me) it can be a bit time consuming.

All I did for this card was to black emboss a few of the present image from Happy Moments onto Whisper White card stock, cut them to size and get painting with my Crystal Effects colours.  While they were drying, I did the base cards by stamping the same image in Versamark repeatedly on Kraft.  I didn't use a stamp-a-ma-jig because the image lends itself quite nicely to not being exact.  Another reason why I love this image!

When I paint the images, I do it by applying one colour at a time, not completing one image at a time.  Why?  Because it saves time by not having to constantly clean brushes between colours.  And no, you can't leave a brush with a colour still on it while you use another one - you'll come back to discover it's set and you'll need to throw your brush away.  It is Crystal Effects after all!

You'll need about 1-2 drops of ink to about half a teaspoon of Crystal Effects, but it all depends on the richness of the colour.  I used less Rich Razzleberry ink, but more Melon Mambo.  I keep mine in little resealable containers so I can use it again.

Materials:
Stamp set - Happy Moments
Cardstock - Kraft, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White
Inks - Versamark, re-inkers in Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango, Bermuda Bay
Accessories - Dimenionals, black embossing powder, heat tool, Crystal Effects

13 Days To Go...

Only 13 days until Sale-A-Bration finished - have you got the sets you wanted to earn?  I'd love to hear what everyone's favourite sets are - mine is Happy Moments.  It's funny because I bought that one before Sale-A-Bration started, (as demonstrators, we're allowed to purchase one set to have for making demonstration cards etc), purely because I could see that it would work for so many different types of cards and I'd be able to demonstrate so many different techniques.  It definitely wasn't my favourite set initially.  Isn't it funny how that happens?

Anyway, I put together a collage of some of the cards I've made using Happy Moments.  If you're interested in seeing any in detail, just click the tag at the bottom of the post.  Hope you're enjoying your Sale-A-Bration sets!
